Tahsildar hands pension papers to elderly woman who collapsed at VA’s office

Shivamogga: Facing severe flak over an elderly woman fainting at the VA’s office while waiting for the official to arrive, the district administration took swift action and handed the sanction letter to the woman at her home.
Tahsildar V.S. Rajeev on Tuesday visited the home of Sadhamma in Hebbige village in Hosanagar Taluk here and handed over the sanction letter to her.
Under Deputy Commissioner Dr. R Selvamani’s instructions, the tahsildar went to the beneficiary’s house and handed over the letter. He also inquired about her welfare and health condition.
Sidhamma, who had been waiting for the VA since morning, had fainted outside the Nittur Village Accountant’s office after the official did not turn up till noon. The incident had triggered a public outcry.
Taking a serious view of the incident, the DC has instructed officials to attend to matters of public without delay. Instructions were also issued to take action against those who delay discharging their duties.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Nagendra F Honnalli said that a notice has already been issued to the concerned Village Accountant of Nittur Village where the woman had collapsed.
