Belthangady: The tahsildar of the taluk Ganapati Shastri set an example for other officials by carrying bagful of rice on his head and moving it to the other side of a bridge while supervising the distribution of food and other items at Banjarumale area in this taluk on Thursday August 15th.

Last Friday, heavy rains washed away an old bridge at Banjarumale and hence, a temporary bridge was built there by using wood by locals and journalists on Wednesday. Through the bridge provisions and other things needed by 46 families living on the other side of the bridge were transported by hand on Thursday August 15.

On the occasion, 16 kinds of items including rice, dal, and oil were distributed among the affected families. Through his action of coming down to the level of the common man, the tahsildar inspired others to work for the people in distress.

It is worth noting that during the worst flood witnessed by the taluk last week, Shastri had had joined hands with others in saving people facing danger. Also during the recent Lok Sabha election, the tahsildar had carried electronic voting machines on his head while placing them in the strong room.

The humanitarian concern by the tahsildar has drawn much praise from the people on social media.
