Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan M.P. on Tuesday instructed officials to take stringent and immediate legal action against any offender engaged in illegal sand mining in the district.

Speaking as the Chairperson of the “District Sand Monitoring Committee” meeting held on Tuesday, the DC emphasized that due attention should be given to prevent unauthorized sand mining in CRZ areas along the sea and river banks. Police officials conducting night patrols should visit locations prone to unauthorized sand mining and conduct inspections based on the registration numbers of vehicles associated with such activities, he told officials.

He also instructed officials to report illegal mining incidents to the police along with the vehicle registration numbers linked to the violation. Officials were instructed not to overlook cases and to gather information on-site without delay.

He also advised Tahsildars to effectively use the control rooms and CCTV cameras at the taluk level to control illegal sand mining activities.

SP C.B. Rishyant addressed the need to impound vehicles or boats involved in sand theft and register cases. He urged for heightened vigilance in the CRZ zones.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Siddharth Goyal, Deputy Forest Conservator Antony Mariyappa, and geologist Girish were also present during the meeting.
