While Tesla may be in the process of perfecting their self-driving car technology, a video of a driverless Premier Padmini or Fiat car cruising on a road in Tamil Nadu left netizens puzzled.
In the video, the sole occupant of the car is seen sitting on the navigators seat while the car cruises along on the road. The video was shot by a man driving behind the car, who later shared it on Facebook and captioned it as “How is this possible?”.
The ‘self-driving’ Fiat can be seen changing lanes and expertly overtaking other vehicles, apparently without anyone behind the wheel.
Since being posted on social media, the video garnered several views and comments such as “Ghosts are real?”
Few Facebook users tried to decipher the mystery, saying that man must be driving a car with a two-way pedal system. Such cars with pedals on both sides are used by driving schools, allowing the instructor to control the vehicle too.
The man on the navigator seat simply had to extend his right hand to control the steering wheel and drive the car expertly.
Few users identified the man as a resident of Vellore saying that they have spotted him driving from the passenger seat on several occasions.
