Tauktae shatters coastal K’taka; Red Alert declared in all 3 districts

Udupi, Mangaluru: Heavy rains and cyclonic winds hit the coastal and Malnadu districts of the State from late on Saturday along with huge waves that have already swallowed up entire shores.
The heavy downpour has caused water to enter the lowlands. Electricity supply to large parts of the coastal districts has been cut.
The sea waves have been battering the shores so severely that the new road inaugurated a few months ago at Maranavthe and a two-storeyed building at Kasargod were washed away.
A fishing boat docked at Malpe port sank. Two Bihar-based youths on board the boat safely jumped out to the beach.
The Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted that the present weather will continue for a further three days.
The Department has also announced a Red Alert on May 16, Orange Alert on May 17 and Yellow Alert on May 18, adding that on all these days winds will be blowing at 30 to 40 kmph.
