Tax department uncovers GST fraud of Rs 63 crore

Bengaluru: Central Tax Department has ventured up the power of tasks against the GST evaders. Bengaluru South GST Commissionerate has uncovered seven instances of GST extortion in which a measure of Rs 63 crore was not paid to the government. The division has so far recuperated Rs 41 crores out of the said sum including fines. The defaulters includes businesses such as travels, consultant services, builders, automobile and IT industry.

In addition to GST, the division is recuperating the old VAT tax balance not paid and furthermore tax evasion amid the changeover from VAT to GST. An aggregate sum of Rs 165 crore of misrepresentation has become known and the tax inspectors have recovered Rs 60 crores so far.

The commissionerate, which was concentrating on the major GST payers, has turned its eyes on the other smaller GST payers also. It is uncovering the cheaters and forcing substantial fines on them. 

There are eight zonal office under the central tax department. Bengaluru city itself has five zones. The other zonal offices are in Mangaluru, Mysuru and Belagavi. Out of this, the Bengaluru south commissionerate has expanded the force of its operations to discover the fraudsters. 

The division has likewise uncovered the non-payment of excise duty and service tax that was predominant before the introduction of GST. The officers have discovered extortion to the tune of Rs 45 crore. They have so far recovered Rs 22 crore out of this sum.
