Technical glitches, snags in online system delay property tax payment in Mangaluru City

Mangaluru: Technical glitches in the online payment system of the Mangaluru City Corporation are delaying the payment of property tax in the city.

Mangaluru Mayor said that he has called for a meeting with the concerned officials and that the issue will be resolved soon.

“The online system was deployed last year to pay property tax in the corporation. Unfortunately, there are still many technical glitches in the system, since its inception. I will hold a meeting of the officials to find out the cause of the problem,” the mayor said.

The City had developed the digital technology for payment of property tax, which was earlier collected through payments made at the Mangalore One service centers and designated banks. However, the web portal is unresponsive, with people unable to find the details of their properties or the payment portal. Udayavani ‘Sudina’ had published a special report on the issue last week.

Problems aplenty:

The online payment system is riddled with glitches. For one, the details of many who paid property tax last year have not been updated. Many found their accounts showed pending taxes despite making prompt payments. Some other residents could not access their property details. Moreover, the gateway does not support online payments of most reputable banks.

Instead of easing the hassles of property tax payment, the online system has become a nuisance for the taxpayers in the city.
