Fifteen-year-old Sikh boy, Sidakdeep Singh Chahal, hailing from Noida in Uttar Pradesh, has earned a place in the Guinness World Records for having the longest hair among male teenagers. His video was shared by Guinness World Records on September 14.
Chahal, in the video, shared, “People say my hair are very long, very thick. They have a good volume. They wish they had hair like this. My hair measures in at 130 cm or just about four feet and three inches.”
In line with his Sikh faith, Chahal’s parents never allowed him to cut his hair, a practice he continues to follow. “I practice Sikhism and we are forbidden from cutting our hair,” he affirmed. In Sikhism, not cutting one’s hair is a fundamental principle, considering it a gift from God. Chahal usually ties his hair in a bun and covers it with a dastar (turban), as per Sikh customs.
Managing his hair is no small task either. He mentioned that washing alone takes around 20 minutes, followed by another half an hour for drying. Brushing it, he revealed, takes 10 to 15 minutes, with his mother assisting him in these endeavors.
Chahal expressed gratitude towards his mother, acknowledging her pivotal role. “I’m helped by my mother in this since it is difficult to handle hair this long. If it weren’t for my mother, I don’t think I would have this record,” Chahal expressed.

Chahal’s hair has been long since he was a young child. Around the age of three or four, his hair reached his shoulders, resembling that of Johnny Depp, he reminisced.
His childhood wasn’t without its challenges. Chahal recounted being teased by friends whenever he went outside to dry his hair, an experience he didn’t particularly enjoy. He even tried to persuade his parents to let him cut his hair. However, now he feels that his hair is an integral part of his identity, and he intends to keep it that way.
When he’s not attending to his impressive tresses, Chahal spends his time studying, exercising, reading, and playing video games. He quipped, “Believe it or not but my entire personality is not based around my hair.”
