Teenager drowns, four rescued while swimming at Netravati River

Mangaluru: A 13-year-old boy drowned and four others were rescued at Netravati River here at Farangipete on Tuesday, January 8. The deceased has been identified as Abdul Satthar (13) resident of Ammemar, Farangipete.

Apparently, five students had ventured into the river to collect molluscs and had travelled to the other shore by boat to collect them. However, when they decided to have a swim in the river, the tragedy struck.

Fortunately, locals and saw the students drowning and managed to rescue four of the students. However, by then, the waters had claimed Abdul. His mortal remains were later fished ashore.

The spot was visited by the police.
