Surathkal: A teenage boy who had been to Panambur beach with his friends is feared drowned in the Arabia Sea on Saturday, October 13th.  The missing boy has been identified as Sudharaj (18), son of Keshav, a resident of Gerukatte in Belthangady taluk.

According to sources from Panambur police station, a group of 11 friends who were also students from Belthangady Government College had been to Panambur beach on Saturday morning. The group played kabaddi on the shore and later stepped into the waters. When they attempted to go deeper into the sea, the lifeguards at beach asked them to return back to shore. Though all them followed the directions of the lifeguards, Sudharaj ventured back into the waters before anybody could react. A search operation was launched immediately, but there was no trace of him, when reports last came in.

Senior citizen rescued

In an earlier incident, an elderly man attempting to commit suicide by jumping into the sea was rescued by the lifeguards. The rescued senior citizen has been identified as Mahadevappa, son of Malledevaru from Gundlupet, Chamrajanagar.

Mahadevappa had been to the southern side of Panambur beach and jumped into the sea. The lifeguards noticing this rushed to his rescue and were successful. Depression is said to be the reason for his suicide attempt.

Post the successful rescue operation, the elderly individual was handed over to Panambur police and his family members were informed about the incident.
