Teenager’s corpse found inside percolation pit; Accidental drowning suspected

Kadaba: Corpse of a high school student has been found inside a percolation pit by the side of the government PU college at Kaniyoor in the taluk on Thursday night September 5th.

The deceased has been identified as Gautham (15), son of Laxman Gowda from Bommolike in Charvaka village, and a tenth standard student of the same school. It is suspected that the victim must have slipped and drowned when he got down into the pit to take bath. Gautham was a brilliant student hailing from a poor family.

On Thursday, the boy had attended the school for participating in the Teacher’s Day function held at the school, including a function to inaugurate students union was also held till 3.30 pm. but failed to return home. It is presumed that the student would have come out of the school and got into the pit during this period and met is untimely demise.

When the worried family members started searching for the missing boy along with assistance form others, the victims trousers, shirt and footwear were found near the pit. The Bellare police were immediately informed. After the police arrived, a local got into the water, searched and eventually found the corpse with only the underwear on. One of his eyes was found to have suffered damage.

Since a wrist watch was found at the spot, it is presumed  presumed that he would have been accompanied by some other students and they would have fled after turning panicky over his drowning. Bellare police are investigating.
