Tempo-tanker accident kills 5, injures 15

Bhatkal: A terrible accident involving a tanker and tempo has claimed the lives of five persons and injured more than 15 persons near Honnavar on the evening of Saturday, September 15th.
Reportedly, the tempo was proceeding towards Honnavar from Kumta, while the tanker was moving on the opposite direction when the head-on collision took place. The condition of some of the injured is stated to be critical.
The deceased have been identified as Kamalakar Bhandary (50) from Baggaon in Kumta, Mohan Mesta (50) from Karki in Honnavar, Simanth Madiwala (38) and her daughter, Sinchana Madiwala (6) from Kumta, and Nagaraj Naik (26) from Honnavar.
The accident happened at around 6.30 pm at Karki near Honnavar on national highway 66 and soon the police were alerted of the situation. The police along with the assistance of the general public, shifted the injured to Honnavar government hospital. There the injured were given first aid and then rushed to Manipal for advanced treatment.
The mortal remains of the deceased have been taken away for postmortem. Honnavar police have registered a case about the accident and are investigating it.
