Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to file an FIR against the owner of Shah Sultan Building on Cunningham Road for undertaking a minor demolition without obtaining permission and for partially damaging the TenderSURE footpath.
Following a tip-off from a member of the public, the jurisdictional BBMP engineers visited the spot and confirmed that the compound wall had been demolished.
BBMP’s chief engineer (projects) KT Nagraj said they were informed about the damage to the footpath. “Our engineers have ascertained the damage caused to the pavement and we have decided to file an FIR against the property owner,” informed Nagraj.
Bid to create parking space
“We have been informed that the property owner had demolished the compound wall to make arrangements to park vehicles. The wall is in his property, but during demolition, the civic agency’s property was damaged. In any case, nobody has the right to demolish their own property without taking BBMP permission. Hence, the property owner has violated the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act and is liable for prosecution,” explained Mr Nagraj.
It may be noted that the Cunningham Road was developed at a cost of Rs 12 crore four years ago under TenderSURE.
