Tensions in Shivamogga: Police put on alert in Udupi, security tightened

Udupi: In view of the tense situation in Shivamogga after communal clashes on Independence Day, a strict vigil is being maintained in the neighboring Udupi district. The police are conducting strict traffic checks in various parts of the city.

An additional 20 check-posts have been opened across the district. Information including mobile numbers is being collected from commuters at check-posts.

Security has been tightened at Barhmagiri circle where flex banners of Savarkar and Subhash Chandra Bose have been put up. District Superintendent of Police said that the security arrangements will continue on Tuesday as well.

No additional action in Dakshina Kannada

Tight security is already in place and the police force is on high alert in Dakshina Kannada district in the aftermath of the untoward incidents in Bellare and Suratkal. In such a scenario, no additional measures have been taken in the district in the wake of the Shivamogga incident, senior police officials said.
