Thrissur: Underneath the thorny, thick skin and the sticky covering all over, the golden hues and the honey-like taste of jackfruit’s arils are now finally getting the recognition world over as a superfood.

The unripened fruit, ripened fruit and its seeds all are edible. Making it one of the best allrounder staple foods in most of South Asia.

Since a few years, the jackfruit has become the best substitute for meat because of its fleshy and spice absorbent feature similar to that of many meat products.

James Joseph, a Kerala jackfruit grower, says gourmet dishes made from the fruit are making people become insane fans of it. Joseph, left Microsoft to make the jakfruit find a global market.

The World Health Organisation has stated in 2019 that vegetarian food is healthy.

The Organisation specifically stated the jackfruit’s high nutritious qualities:
– Full of proteins, vitamins and calcium that is essential for the body.
– Fatless fruit. Does not invite obesity, and heart attack.
– High fibre content contributes to the health of the digestive system.
– No sodium content that increases blood pressure.
– In summer quenches thirst and a satisfying snack

Jackfruit taco, cutlet, cake, juice, burger, ice cream and Krispies are all lending the taste of the mighty super fruit to the taste buds of Westerners.

Joseph makes jackfruit flour for domestic foodies, the chapattis made from this flour are soon making inroads in India’s kitchens as a sweet alternative to wheat and rice flour-based breads.
