Bengaluru: Former Hosadurga MLA Goolihatti Shekar jined BJP in Bengaluru on Sunday. It is said that BJP state President BS Yedryurappa himself initiated Shekar to join the party.

Goolihatti Shekar won from Hosadurga Assembly constituency in Chitradurga District in the year 2008. The BJP which fell in short of candidates to form government took the support of Shekar along with four other independents.

In the year 2010, Shekar along with 15 other MLAs rebelled against Yedryurappa accusing him of withdrawing support to the government. The speaker in the assembly decided to disqualify all the rebels. Shekar was seen tearing his shirt. Shekar had previously rebelled against Siddaramaiah too.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Shekar said that he wants to forget the past and start afresh. When asked for the reason to join BJP, Shekar said that he is motivated by the leadership of Narendra Modi and BS Yedyurappa.
