Theatre personality, author Dr D K Chowta no more

Mangaluru: Renowned theatre organizer and author, Dr D K Chowta (81), passed away on Wednesday, June 19.

He was from Meyyapadavu in Manjeshwar and made unique contributions to the fields of Tulu and Kannada literature. He is survived by son, Sandeep Chowta, a musician by profession, and daughter, Prajna Chowta.

Mr Chowta had penned novels Mittabail Yamunakka and Kariya Vajjerna Kathekulu and he also authored Tulu plays, Pilipattigadasu, Mooji Muttu Mooji Loka, and Paat Pajjelu.

Mangalore University had conferred honorary doctorate on him in recognition of his contributions to the field of literature. In 2011, he was also chosen for the Tulu Sahitya Academy award.
