Despite the recent arrest of members of the notorious ‘Chaddi Gang’ responsible for a spate of robberies and thefts, fear among residents has not completely subsided.
Even after the arrest of four members of the Chaddi Gang and four other thieves, two attempted thefts and one theft case have been reported, which remain unsolved.
House Theft Incident
A burglary occurred at a house in Bejai New Road when the residents were away, discovered on July 14. According to the police, the modus operandi of this burglary did not match that of the Chaddi Gang’s previous activities. The case remains unsolved.
Two Attempted Thefts
On the late night of July 20, a gang of thieves attempted to break into a house near Padavinangady while the residents were sleeping inside. On the same night, a group of thieves was spotted near a temple in Perlaguri, Padavinangady.
Ulayaibettu Incident
In the robbery at an industrialist’s house in Permanki, Ulayaibettu, ten suspects were arrested. Investigations revealed that more individuals were involved, with at least five more suspects yet to be apprehended.
During the arrest of four members of the Chaddi Gang, suspicions arose that more members were part of the gang. Supporting this, CCTV footage showed five individuals involved in a Chaddi Gang crime in Kodikal. However, the fifth individual and other suspected members of the Chaddi Gang remain unidentified.
Questions persist regarding whether the remaining members of the Chaddi Gang are preparing for further crimes or if another group is continuing the thefts. There are also concerns that other gangs may be exploiting the current focus on the Chaddi Gang by the police and the public to carry out their thefts.
