Thekkatte: A pedestrian died after being knocked down by a car on National Highway 66 near here on February 20.
The deceased has been identified as Ashok Mogaveera (49), a resident of Thekkatte Thotadabettu.
The accident occurred at around 7.30 PM when the Maruti Swift car was moving towards Kundapura from Manipal.
The car rammed into pedestrians near the main circle. As a result, Ashok was killed on the spot due to severe head injuries. Another pedestrian, a woman resident of Bijadi Arasarabettu, suffered minor injuries. She has been rushed to a private hospital at Koteshwar.
Kota police rushed to the accident spot and registered a case.
Locals blamed the inadequate street lighting for the frequent accidents at the spot. In the dark, motorists fail to notice pedestrians crossing the highway until it’s very late, they alleged.
Even after bringing the issue to the notice of concerned authorities, nothing has been done to address the issue, they fumed.
