Mangaluru: Private temples need not be alarmed by a private circular issued by the Charitable Endowments department. There is no question of seizing the private temples, said, Kota Srinivas Poojary, Minister of Muzrai from Revenue department of Karnataka

Speaking to the reporters, Poojary said, ” Religious Endowment Act was amended in 2015 which required all the religious temples to be registered. The government does not have any rights on private temples and cannot monitor or take over them. We have issued a circular to remind the temples to register under the act”

“The Act was enacted in 2011 and passed in 2015. Circular to remind temples to register under the act was sent  in 2016,17,18,19,20. It is a normal process. This year the circular was sent without my notice. But, there is  no question of  acquisition of private temples. We will verify if anyone says that the circular should be withdrawn. Private temples will remain private,” he added.
