Thief hurts himself while trying to erase evidence; leaves a trail of blood; arrested

Uppinangady: In his hurry to decamp with valuables, a thief who broke into a bank, a hotel, and a medical shop, suffered a head injury and spilled blood all over the road. The incident occurred at Kalleripet in Karaya village of Belthangady taluk.
The act was caught on CCTV cameras, and the thief turned out to be someone who was well known to the locals. Based ont eh evidence, the accused, identified as Ashraf (37), son of Abdul Khader, a resident of Shantibettu House in Kaukradi village of Kadaba taluk, has been arrested.
Ashraf tried to first break open the shutters of a cooperative bank but failed to do so. After which, he tried to steal rods stored on a pickup nearby by breaking the glass. He used the rod to break into a restaurant beside the bank and stole Rs 5,000 cash from there.
Thereafter, he went on to target a clinic next door and stole more than Rs 5,000 cash from there. On his way back he noticed the CCTV camera installed at the clinic and tried to cut its wires in order to erase evidence. HOwever, in his hurry he hit his head into a door behind and started bleeding.
The injury was so severe that there was a trail of blood on the route he took to flee from the spot.
To his dismay, he was caught by the police when he was trying to get home after having fun with the stolen money.
During the investigation, police said that the accused used to come to dispose of garbage in the area, during which he planned a sketch to theft.
