Thirthahalli: Retaining wall of Tunga Bridge bypass on NH 169A collapses

Thirthahalli: The retaining wall of the Tunga Bridge Bypass road at Balebailu -Kuruvalli on National Highway 169A, constructed at a cost of Rs 56 crore, collapsed on Tuesday evening.

The new Tunga Bridge and bypass road, constructed at an expense of Rs 56 crore had been inaugurated a few months ago.

The retaining walls, which showed signs of collapse on Monday evening, completely gave way by Tuesday evening. Traffic had already been restricted on the route.

DySP Gajanan Vaman Sutar and other police officials are stationed at the site.

Members of the public have raised concerns about the collapse during a single monsoon, indicating potential issues with the construction quality and adherence to scientific standards.
