Bengaluru: “In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic a decision to ban fireworks during Deepavali this year has been taken. An official order from the government will be issued soon,” Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said.

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said that no fireworks can be sold during the festival of Deepavali and permission will not be granted to burst firecrackers. Fireworks will be banned State-wide this year.

Health Minister K Sudhakar had recently said that the air pollution generated by fireworks can lead to an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. Experts have suggested to the government that it is better to ban fireworks. Hence, in this regard, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa would take appropriate action after consulting the experts.

Deepavali fireworks have already been banned by the State governments of Delhi, West Bengal and Maharashtra.
