Ullal: The work on the flyover at Thokkottu junction along the national highway 66 has been completed on Sunday. Although the inauguration of the flyover completed after persistent delays was assured to be on June 10, it has now been postponed due to technical reasons. Hence, the date for the inauguration of the flyover is expected to be decided only after a meeting of the representatives of the people, the district administration and officials of the highway authority, which is scheduled to be held on June 14th.

The work on Thokkottu flyover had begun eight years back, but the pace of the work was slower than that of a tortoise due to financial difficulties. Union minister for transport Nitin Gadkari had later released additional amount to the contracting company on the recommendation of the MP Nalin Kumar. Finally, the work on the flyover has been completed, but the date for its inauguration remains to be decided. Hence until then, no real relief has reached the motorists.

Work completed

The work on the flyover was carried out continuously for 24 hours a day for three months and since there was a complete lack of pre-monsoon showers, the work finally reached its completion. The work on painting the retaining wall and the road partition line between two vehicles was done by Sunday evening. The work on the removal of the equipment used for concrete work was also removed by Sunday evening. Finishing work has been completed.

Date to be decided soon

“The work on Thokkottu flyover has been completed by June 10th. The concerned officials have been asked to solve the problem regarding Ullal cross road. In the backdrop of the transfer of two important officials of the highway department and after the taking charge of the new officials will a meeting be called in participation of the MLA’s and the district in-charge minister U T Khader, and a date for the inauguration will be finalized by another five days,” said MP Nalin Kumar
