Sampigehalli police on Tuesday arrested three persons for allegedly cheating job aspirants by posing as HR managers of reputed firms.
The arrested are identified as Kali Prasad (38) from Bhubaneswar, Abhijeeth Arun (34) from Pune and Abhijith Mohanty (21) from Odisha.
Kali Prasad is said to be the mastermind of the scam. Police said that the accused were employed with a private firm but decided to dupe gullible people to make extra money.
They targeted graduates, applying for jobs in MNCs and would hold fake online interviews. Candidates who were ‘successfully selected’ would be mailed fake appointment letters with the date of joining and they would be asked to pay money for security deposits, fees.
Once the amount was remitted, the accused would switch off their phones and change their SIM numbers. According to the police around 40-50 people have been defrauded using the same modus operandi.
