Three children of a family drown in a water tank

Puttur: Three children of the same family drowned after accidentally falling into a water tank at Uddangala in Bettampady here on Wednesday April 3. The deceased are identified as Jitesh (13), Vismita (13) and Chaitra (9).
Vismita was the daughter of Harish Moolya and was pursuing seventh standard at Mittadka government higher primary school. Vismita’s sister Chaitra was a student of fourth standard. Jitesh, son of Uddangala resident Ravi Moolya, brother of Harish Moolya, was studying in the same school in class 7.
The incident
It is learnt that on Wednesday evening, the children were playing near the water tank which was constructed three months ago. by the local panchayat under the drinking water supply project. While playing, the kids reportedly climbed the tank and accidentally fell into it and drowned.
Protest
Post the incident, a protest was held against the gram panchayat by the locals for not locking up the lid on the tank and demanded that the assistance commissioner and GP president visit the location. Later, panchayat president Jayaram Poojary, PDO Shailaja Prakash and AC Krishnamurthy visited the spot and gathered information.
A case has been registered with Sampya police station.
