Bengaluru: The KR Puram police have arrested three people, including two women, for killing a 67-year-old man living alone in his apartment at Bettal Nagar, near K R Puram on April 2.

The accused has been identified as Sumati, 23, Sumaya Basu, 22, and Karthik, 20. The women are residents of Shankar Math while Karthik is from Yelahanka.

According to the police, the deceased, Sanjay Sathish, had become friends with Sumaya Basu at Malleswaram police station only seven days before he was killed.

On March 27, Sathish, a financier, had gone to the police station to file an complaint against a man who had cheated him. In the meantime, Sumaya was in the police station to complain about her husband who was harassing her. She got to know Sathish, who offered her an occupation as a domestic help in his home after she let him know of her monetary issues. The two exchanged their numbers in the station.

The following day, Sumaya went to meet Sathish in his apartment, along with her friend Sumati.

“They saw him wearing lots of ornaments. They learnt that he lived alone, as his family is in New Zealand,” said the police. After some days, the duo went top the apartment once again along with Karthik.

As indicated by the police, Sumati tossed a duppatta around his neck and strangled him. Sumaya supposedly tied his legs with another another duppatta while Karthik threw chilli powder on his face.

The trio took Rs. 1.5 lakh and four gold chains that Sathish was wearing before going out.
