Tiger kills tribal youth who went to collect firewood

Mysuru: In a tragic incident, a 28-year-old tribal youth who had gone to collect firewood from Bairakuppa in the Nagarhole tiger reserve was killed by a tiger on Sunday, December 23.
The deceased is identified as Krishna alias Madhu, son of Dasan a resident of the Manimule haadi tribal settlement in D B Kuppe range.
It is gathered that Krishna had gone to collect firewood from the forest on Sunday morning but had not returned till evening, the worried tribals launched a search operation on Monday and finally found his partially devoured body and pugmarks of a tiger were found near the body.
On receiving the information the forest officials rushed to the spot and carried out their investigation. The body has been kept in the forest to carry out post-mortem at the spot itself. Madhu is survived by wife Bhagya and three children, informed sources.
As the news spread, H D Kote MLA Anil Chikkamadu visited the spot and informed to take measures like trenches and fences to keep wild animals away from human settlements. He also assured compensation from the government to victim’s kin.
