US Department of Commerce (DoC) announced that TikTok and WeChat will be banned from US app stores starting on Sunday, September 20th
As reported by Engadget, The US government accused the apps of being active participants in China’s civil-military fusion, alleging that they collect vast swaths of data from users, including network activity, location data, and browsing and search histories.
Earlier, Microsoft had planned to purchase the company’s US operations, but later Oracle emerged as the leading contender and there was a possible partnership between Oracle and Bytedance. But reports suggest that Trump did not like the deal.
However, It is said that if national security concerns about the use of TikTok are lifted by a deadline of November 12 then the ban on the app could be lifted.
