Mangaluru: Right behind the trail of legislative assembly elections, the election commission will soon invoke the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming legislative council election on June 8th. With the Code in place, no inauguration of work or laying of foundation stone for works is permissible until the elections are done.

On May 15th, the election commission announced the timetable for the election of southwest graduates and teachers constituencies. The Code will be in place until the culmination of the elections and the government cannot inaugurate any work or laying of foundation stone for works during this period. District level officers are banned from taking part in any functions where state and union ministers will take part in.

Political party meeting and celebrations will have to be documented with video. Use of government vehicle for ministers and representatives of the people is limited from office to residence and many other such rules will be implemented under the Code.
