Immune system is our body’s defense system designed to ward off what it sees as a threat to the body. Since our body is a complex system with different departments that serve various functions, our immune system has two components- innate system which we are born with and the adaptive system that develops when exposed to outside invaders.
Below are few tips to strengthen your immune system.
- A healthy lifestyle: Having a healthy lifestyle leads to a healthy immune system. This includes maintaining a healthy diet, exercising regularly, not smoking and regulating the intake of alcohol.
- Eat rainbow : Food has phytochemicals present in them which are nothing but antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that provide nutrition to your body and help build immunity. Including food of various color to your meals will ensure no important nutrient is missed out.
- Avoid table salt and replace it with lemon or herbs. Avoid fizzy and carbonated drinks.
- Get enough sleep: Sleep and immune system go hand in hand. Sleep reboots your mind and immune system. A study found that getting at least 7 hours of sleep per night can make one 4 times less likely to catch a cold compared to people who sleep for less than 6 hours.
- Exercise: Regular exercise improves cardiovascular health, lowers blood pressure and even protects against various diseases. It even helps to boost your immune system naturally.
