Hubbali: Sri Ram Sena chief Pramod Muthalik was detained by the police on Thursday, November 10, for protesting against the Tipu Jayanti celebrations at the Idgah Maidan.
Muthalik was detained at Chennamma Circle, as he was making his way to the Idgah Maidan to join the protest.
Later, the police took him in his own car to CAR Ground.
Meanwhile, his supporters and workers were also detained and taken in a government bus.
Speaking to the media Muthalik said, “We condemn Tipu Jayanti celebrations. Tipu was anti-Kannada and anti-Hindu, hence we will not allow the celebrations. Celebrating a person who has converted people forcefully is not right. We also condemn the steps taken by the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation for such a decision. We will file a PIL in the Karnataka High Court to stop the Tipu Jayanti celebrations”.
Lashing out at the BJP-led state government he said, “BJP is supporting the anti-national AIMIM party. Comparing Tipu with other great leaders is unethical”.
Meanwhile, as the police had beefed up security around the Idgah Maidan vicinity as a precautionary measure with regard to the entry of Muthalik to the district, all the vehicles were on strict vigil.
