‘Tit for tat’: Jail inmates assault officers arrested in TN custodial deaths case

Chennai: Five police officers arrested in connection with the Tuticorin custodial death case were allegedly attacked by the inmates of the Peroorani prison in Thoothukudi district on Saturday. Following this incident the arrested officers will now be shifted the Madurai Jail.
The deaths of Jayaraj P and Bennicks J in Tamil Nadu as a result of police brutality evoked nationwide outrage. The CB CID which took over the probe arrested the officers on murder charges.
As per reports, the attack took place in the common area around 4:30pm on Saturday. The officers were chatting among themselves when the jail inmates assaulted them. The officers were rescued by the jail wardens.
