Mangaluru: Two days after West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced Rs five lac financial assistance to each of the families of police firing victims, a delegation of TMC leaders arrived in the city on Saturday, December 28.

The visiting delegation, comprising of former railway minister Dinesh Dwivedi of Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Rajya Sabha MP MD Nadimul Haque visited the families of Jaleel and Nausheen and expressed their condolences to the families. They also presented the Rs five lakh compensation cheque to the families of the two victims.

Condemning the police firing on the day, the TMC leaders said that the purpose of their visit was to meet and extend help to the aggrieved families and they do not want to politicise the issue.

“We cannot bring back the dead by offering compensation. It is a symbol that we are with the families of the deceased,” said Dinesh Dwivedi while urging for restoration of peace in the country and resolving the CAA issue with mutual discussion.

He further added that the families of the victims are only seeking justice.
