Chennai: In a bid to promote handloom products, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami today exhorted the public to wear khadi dresses once a week.

Tamil Nadu has about 3.20 weavers and nearly 1.29 lakh families depend on the textile and handloom sectors, Palaniswami said.

The Government has been implementing projects set forth by the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for the benefit of the weavers community, he said in his National Handloom Day message here.

In 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the first National Handloom Day in Tamil Nadu in the presence of the late AIADMK Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and former Governor K Rosaiah.
