To control drug menace Surathkal beach to shut at 6 pm

Surathkal: In an effort to contain the consumption and distribution of marijuana and other narcotic substances the new police commissioner of Mangaluru Shashikumar has ordered the closing of Surathkal beach after sunset.
In the verbal order sent to the agency contracted to manage the beach, it was stated that they must ensure nobody enters the beach after 6 pm.
There were also reports that police vehicles were patrolling the beach in Panambur and were sending people back from the area.
Usually, visitors and local residents can be seen at the beach till 8 or 9 pm every night. The new verbal order now bars people from staying late at the beach.
