Udupi: MLA Raghupati Bhat submitted a petition to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari requesting to cancel the “unscientific” hike in user charges at Hejamady Toll Plaza after its merger with Surathkal toll gate.

On the instructions of Union Minister of State for Agriculture Shobha Karandlaje, the MLAs met Nitin Gadkari on Thursday in New Delhi. Bhat informed Gadkari of the problems faced by motorists from Udupi due to the toll hike, especially those travelling to the Manglauru Airport from Udupi and the local commercial vehicles.

In response, Gadkari assured to take up the matter with the NHAI officials at a meeting to be held on December 5.
