New Delhi: Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari informed that all the toll collecting points which are within 60 km of each other on the national highways will be closed in the next three months.
Gadkari made the statement on Tuesday during a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the demands for grants pertaining to his ministry.
“I will ensure that there will be only one toll plaza within 60 km and if there’s a second toll plaza, then it will be shut in the next three months,” he said.
Further, he added that the ministry has initiated various projects to connect all religious places with quality roads to provide a thrust to religious tourism.
Notably, in Dakshina Kannada activists have been staging protests demanding closure of toll plaza at Surathkal citing another functional toll gate at Hejamadi on NH 66 situated merely 11 km away. Recently, the Road Ministry has instructed NHAI to shift the Surathkal toll gate to the premises of the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA).
