Total sham: HC on BBMP’s report claiming it has filled up majority potholes

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has objected to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) compliance report, which claims that the civic body has filled up a majority of the potholes in the city.

Calling the report a “total sham”, the court observed, “We feel that you have not done anything.” HC indicated action against the civic agency officers if they did not make coordinated efforts to prevent indiscriminate digging up of roads and fill up the dug-up roads in the city.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi and Justice Suraj Govindaraj issued the directions while hearing a PIL petition filed in 2015 on lack of proper and regular mechanism for maintenance of roads.

The court also asked the BBMP to inform whether it has got any policy on coordination between various utility service providing agencies in road-cutting as roads are found dug up frequently by agencies for laying cables and pipelines.

The next hearing for the case is scheduled for February 7.
