Mangaluru: Following the resounding success of the river festival, held on the bank of Phalguni river, the state government plans to develop the area to attract more tourists by laying down a bicycle path here as part of the Karnataka Tourism Vision Group.

The 1-km long bicycle path will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs one crore and a detailed project report in this regard and will soon be submitted to the state government.

The tourism department envisions developing Dakshina Kannada as a major tourist hub and towards this end, the government had earmarked 18 acres of land in Bangrakulur village, of which 16 acres has already been handed over to the tourism department. Integrated tourism development activities will be undertaken in this spot.

Apart from this the department also plans to develop a walking arena for beach-goers and has selected Sasihithlu and Tannirbavi beaches for the project. A DPR has already been submitted to the government and the estimated total cost is pegged at Rs 15 crore.

Tourism Minister CT Ravi said that the government intends to beautify all beaches from Kasargod border to Uttara Kannada district on a priority basis under the Coastal Circuit programme. District tourism departments have been asked to resubmit detailed project reports, he said.
