Subrahmanya: The restoration work on the Mangalore-Bengaluru railway line between Yedakumeri and Kadagaravalli, affected by a landslide at Donihagal, has reached its final stage, with a successful trial run conducted.
Repair work began immediately following the landslide, and the retaining wall construction at the landslide site was completed on Saturday. The track restoration is almost complete, and the final stage works are progressing rapidly.
The lower portion of the wall has been reinforced with rocks and iron nets. Another layer of rocks is being added, and with most of the work completed, a trial run with a railway engine was successfully conducted at a slow speed.
Goods Train Operations Permitted
Given the substantial completion of restoration work, goods train operations were allowed on Sunday on a trial basis, with trains permitted to run at 15 km/h in the affected area. However, official clearance from the railway department is awaited. Passenger train services will also be resumed once the repair works are fully completed.
Resumption of Vehicle Movement on Shiradi Ghat
In a related development, vehicle movement has resumed on Shiradi Ghat in Uppinangady after continuous landslides caused by heavy rains. Despite ongoing road widening works, the situation has improved, and vehicle movement has been allowed on Sunday.
