Chikkamagaluru: Traffic came to a standstill on the Charmadi Ghat, as a 16-wheeler lorry, laden with cement broke down due to a mechanical failure at the tenth turn. The lorry, en route from Hubli to Mangaluru, blocked all lanes, impeding the flow of traffic through this crucial route.
Charmadi Ghat serves as a vital conduit between Chikkamagaluru and Mangaluru, accommodating a considerable volume of vehicular movement. Consequently, the breakdown triggered heavy congestion, with vehicles queuing up for kilometers along the stretch.
Movement of vehicles with more than 10 wheels is prohibited on the narrow ghat road. The incident has prompted questions from locals regarding how a 16-wheeler was allowed on the Charmadi Ghat. Concerns have been raised about the efficacy of policing measures, particularly at the Kottigehara checkpost.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to resolve the situation and restore normalcy to the traffic flow. However, until the lorry is removed or repaired, motorists are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid further delays.
