Trail of devastation: Rain and storm in DK, Kodagu districts

Mangaluru: Good rainfall accompanied with strong winds was experienced at several parts of Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts on Wednesday April 24th. A number of houses were damaged in Sullia taluk as a result of strong winds.

Good rain was experienced at Sonangeri, Jalsur, Kanakamajalu in Sullia taluk. Power supply to several villages was cut after electric poles fell across Jalsur and Sonangeri roads. the downed wires also caused traffic woes. An uprooted tree brought down power cables at Kadaba Hosmmath rendering Subrahmanya temple and surrounding areas without electricity supply. Tahsildar Abdul Kunhi and village accountant visited the places where the rain had wreaked havoc.

Along with strong winds, some areas of Sullia witnessed hailstorm. Many houses in Sullia town were damaged due to strong winds which blew away roofs. A house belonging to Balakrishna at Bettampady was extensively damaged in the melee. An uprooted tree fell on the cattle shed belonging to Abdul Haji in Jayanagar, Sullia. A house belonging to Usha suffered heavy damage after a coconut tree fell on her house.

Kodagu

Strong winds blew away the roof of a government school at Gummanakilli near Kushalnagar, Kodagu district, inundating classrooms, damaging the furniture and items stored in the office. Traffic movement was affected at some places due to uprooted trees and fallen electric poles.

Light rain was reported from Puttur and the town sky remained enveloped by clouds.

Three days of rain likely from April 30th

Bengaluru: According to the Weather Department, several areas in the state are likely to get rain for three days beginning April 30. The earlier prediction of increased rain in southern interior Karnataka due to the fall in atmospheric pressure witnessed during the last two days will not stand true since it has changed its course. Yet, the southern interior Karnataka and some regions of karavali might receive rain for three days from April 30, informed director of Natural Disaster Response Force, Srinivas Reddy. He added that the atmospheric depression and surface wind intensity have come down and therefore, south interior parts of Karnataka will experience cloudy weather for a couple of more days.
