The state Transport Department on Wednesday issued a notification stating that it is extending, till September 9, the 50 percent discount offer on pending traffic challans.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) Executive Chairman Justice G Narendar.

The 50 percent discount on traffic challans was initially introduced in January 2023 and had been extended in February and March. The notification mentions that the concession is applicable to pending cases registered prior to February 11, 2023.

In the backdrop of the public response to the scheme, the department had been able to collect over Rs 152 crore pending fines and dispose nearly 40 percent of traffic cases until February.
