Udupi: Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Friday said that the truth behind Shiroor seer’s death will be brought to light by the police probing the case and that one needs to wait patiently till then.

His statement came in response to a query posed by a media personnel during the sidelines of his visit to Udupi on September 7.

“Supreme Court orders do not allow to make public, details of a case that is under probe,” he said adding that the police are conducting investigations into the case in a transparent manner.

“We should wait patiently for the truth to be revealed like it has been in Lankesh and Kalburgi murders,” he said.

Media portrays me, Siddaramaiah as enemies

The media has been portraying me and Siddaramaiah as enemies, said Kumaraswamy adding that the coalition will only grow stronger as the media keeps speculating about them. He, however, said that they both have a difference of opinions.

Rain-related losses

Presiding over the progress review meeting held with district officials at Manipal, Kumaraswamy said that the initial reports have pegged the losses arising out of rain-related calamities in the Udupi district at Rs 141 crore and a sum of Rs 14 crore had already been released by the state government for the relief works. “Compensation will be given to those affected by the rain fury as per the NDRF guidelines,” he added.

Issuance of ration cards

Kumaraswamy said that issuance of ration cards, to the 7,000 applicants, will be done at the earliest, once the staff shortage issue is addressed. BPL card holders are eligible for Arogya Shree health facility, he informed.

Rs 70 crore multi-village drinking water project

A multi-village drinking water project, costing Rs 70 crore will be launched within four years to address the water-scarcity problem in the district. He added that there are plans to supply water to Udupi district from Varahi River.

Women’s Hostel in the district

A discussion will be held to look into the demand for a women’s’ hostel, primarily because the district sees a huge influx of students from across the country.

Re-opening of Brahmavar sugar factory

Kumaraswamy said that if the farmers in the region start cultivating sugarcane, then the government would readily re-open the Brahmavar sugar factory.

Illegal Sand mining

He assured that illegal sand mining will be dealt with sternly and rates will be fixed reasonably.
