Mangaluru: Tulunada Rakshana Vedike (TRV) and ‘ Kalavidara Ghatak demanded that the inclusion of Tulu language in the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution at an agitation organised by them in front of DC office on Saturday, January 5.

Founder of Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike, Yogesh Shetty Jeppu, inaugurated the agitation and said, “The people of Tulunadu are becoming strangers in their own soil. They are neglected by governments in all aspects and exploited in various ways. Tulu language has a history of 2000 years and it is the second largest language of Karnataka. It is eligible for declaration as a national language by inclusion in the 8th schedule of Indian Constitution. But political parties and our elected representatives have failed to take this issue seriously and promote our language in national level.”

“Since its inception, Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike has been fighting for inclusion of Tulu language in the eight schedule of the Constitution. Our delegations have met authorities and ruling party leaders many times to consider Tulu as a national language, but no one has supported us. Whenever we hold agitation, some of our representatives’ give statements in media as if they are also fighting for the cause, We cannot understand, being the representatives of people with power, why are they repeatedly failing to put pressure on the government or to speak in the parliament? We urge them to stop the drama and respect the people of Tulunadu by taking immediate action on this,” demanded Yogish.

“Our artists are struggling to get governmental benefits .There is situation here where they have to prove their talent in Kannada language only. Otherwise they are not getting consideration in national level. Hence they are losing opportunities. So it is the final request to all representatives from Tulunadu to work for Tulu language. This is the beginning. We want Tulu to be declared second language of Karnataka and It should be included in the eight schedule of our Constitution at the earliest. Otherwise we will plan mass agitations including protest in front of the residence of chief minister.” he warned.
