Tumakuru: State Home Minister and District In-charge Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara visited the kin of the family who ended their life owing alleged loan harassment.

The minister also visited the mortuary of the district hospital where the bodies of the deceased have been kept.

Police recovered a purported death note from the premises. Financial troubles seem to be the likely cause behind the extreme step. The death note reportedly also names 5 individuals for harassment.

Five members of a family — identified as Garib Saab, Sumaiya, Hajira, Mohammad Subhan and Mohammad Muneer — were found dead at their residence in Sadashiva Nagar on Sunday.

Police recovered a purported death note from the premises. Financial troubles seem to be the likely cause behind the extreme step. The death note reportedly also names 5 individuals for harassment.

Minister Parameshwara met the family members of the deceased and offered his condolences.

Later addressing the media, Parameshwara said that according to a preliminary investigation, the family had taken a debt of Rs 1.5 lakhs. Police are interrogating the persons named in the death note, he added.

The minister also promised a thorough inquiry into the matter. He further said that it has come to light that ‘meter interest fraud’ has increased in the district and necessary steps will be taken to curb it.

On the same occasion, District Superintendent of Police K V Ashok briefed the Home Minister about the details pertaining to the case.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the five people who were named in the death note have been detained by the police and are reportedly being interrogated.
