Tumakuru: Rowdy attacks police with dagger, gets shot in leg

Tumakuru: Police officials, who had come to arrest a rowdy in the murder of history-sheeter Uchhemanja, were attacked by him with a dagger resulting in the officials shooting him in the leg.

The incident occurred at Gubbe taluk in the district here on the morning of Sunday, December 6.

The rowdy sheeter has been identified as Vikas alias Vicky (24).

District Police Superintendent Dr K Vansikrishna had formed three squads to trace and arrest the accused in connection with the murder.

At about 5:30 am on Sunday morning, police officials at Tilak Park Police Station received a tip-off that one of the accused is hiding in an under-construction community centre at Ajjappanahalli village in the district.

Sub Inspector Naveen and other police personnel at the station immediately left to arrest the accused.

On arriving at the spot, the accused attacked one of the police personnel with his dagger injuring the personnel’s left arm. SI Naveen then fired two warning shots in the air and when the accused did not surrender, shot him in the leg.

The wounded accused is presently being treated at the district hospital along with the injured police personnel.
