Tumakuru: Teacher awarded 3-yrs imprisonment for punishment resulting in loss of student’s eye vision

Tumakuru: A private school teacher has been sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment for a punishment meted out to a seven-year-old student in the year 2011.

The Third Additional Civil and JMFC Court in its judgment also directed the teacher, identified as Rahat Fatima to pay a penalty of Rs 10,000.

On February 17, 2011 Fatima had caned the student for not being attentive to her studies. The girl sustained an injury to her left eye which resulted in her losing vision. Despite several treatments, the girl who is now in first PUC, could not get her vision back.

Tilak Park police investigated the case and filed a chargesheet.
