Two arrested for demolishing grotto at Kulal

Bantwal: Two persons were taken into custody by the police in connection with the demolition of Mother Mary grotto and installation of some idols and buntings at that place on Friday, September 28th.
On September 27th, the grotto belonging to Vijayadka Church was destroyed by unidentified miscreants and had installed some idols and buntings at that place.
Bantwal circle inspector T D Nagaraj visited the place with other police personnel. SP Ravikanthe Gowda also visited the place and said stern action will be taken against the culprits.
Bantwal tahasildar Purander said that the place is in government land and hence government has taken the possession of land and no activities will be allowed there till decision is taken.
Vijayadka parish counci had decided to construct the grotto here in 1970. Since then devotees have been visiting the place for prayers.
To the complaint by a person that the grotto was built on disputed land, the Church management said they had taken permission to build the grotto from the owner who owned the kumki land.
Police action
On receiving information of the incident, the police acted quickly and controlled the situation, thereby maintaining the law and order in the area.
